Under the project settings, in the Camera RAW section we can change the Decode Quality to anything lower than Full Res. When we are working with RAW footage we have the option to change the way how the RAW data is decoded. In some cases, this is enough to keep the real-time playback while grading. In both cases use Optimize for Playback to sacrifice the quality a bit, but deliver smoother playback. There are couple of options in the project settings that can improve the playback within the application, and you can find them under: Optimize for playback Here are a few tips that can improve the performance of Resolve significantly and make working with the app smooth. This can happen especially when using OpenFX plugins. That being said, there are situations when even most powerful setups start to slow down. I can't find any info online and I really want to be able to shoot BRAW 12:1 for everything because the data rate is so low I can use cheap SD cards for super small and fast shooting.Īlso as an aside my laptop plays back both 3:1 and 12:1 RAW footage at about 12fps in the BRAW viewer, so idkwtf is going on anymore.Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve is a highly optimized piece of software, and when it is used with high-quality hardware, it can deliver stunning performance when grading even RAW footage with tons of color correction nodes. IS my laptop just too underpowered? I only ever hit 200% CPU on the app in Activity Monitor and 30% User CPU usage. The clips don't have any effects on them, but I get the exact same performance when I have a heavily Color grade on themĬurrently I am at a los2s and have absolutely no idea what to do. I have tried rendering Optimized clips but they just aren't working for me (I don't get any performance difference if they are on or off) I am decoding the BRAW clips using 'clip' and at 1/4 res (1/8 is just too pixelated but almost always perfectly smooth) However scrubbing on the timeline is perfectly smooth and doesn't really lag at all (even the preview is fine and not laggy when moving the playhead around, EVEN WITH COLOR GRADING!!) I import my footage and it is an absolute disaster even after I figured out the stupidity that is the speed of clips in Resolve (FCPX does it so much better), but I am still having a hard time playing back these 60 to 24 clips when compared to my pure 24fps clips, which was not at all an issue in FCPX in which the performance would have been the exact same.Īs far as how the performance actually is, Resolve will report 24fps nearly all the time, but usually I get 56-6 seconds of 24fps playback and then it freezes for a second or two and then stutters and then goes between frozen and 24fps for the rest of the clip.

I shot most of my footage in BRAW 12:1 DCI 4k 60fps so that I could slow it down to 24fps in post and stabilize without losing resolution in a 2.35:1 UHD timeline and also change ISO and white balance in post for faster on location shooting.

My PC specs are: Macbook Pro 15" Late 2013, 2.7Ghz i7, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, GT 750m 2GB. I am brand new to Resolve (from FCPX) after I got my bmpcc4k and wanted to shoot BRAW.
